2010 Calgary Stampede-Canceled
July 12 - 19, 2010
Calgary, Alberta Canada

We have been running RV tours to the Calgary Stampede since 1993!
A Welcome dinner at the 191-meter (626-foot) -high Calgary Tower. For visitors to Calgary, a visit to the top of the tower is an absolute must! Specially tinted, double plate glass windows make breathtaking photos a snap. The observation platform includes state-of-the-art telescopes, and an interactive video display. The revolving Panorama Dining Room offers an entire sweep of the city, and its magnificent setting against the Rocky Mountains. All this, plus dinner cuisine prepared by world class chefs, make this a fine beginning for a wonderful “Rocky Mountain High”.

A Calgary city tour. We’ll see the city sights, including Olympic Park (site of the 1988 winter Olympics with its ski-jumps, and bobsled and luge runs) and its Hall of Fame depicting the history of the Winter Olympics since the first one, in France, in 1924. Lunch included!

Two afternoons of rodeo activities, semi-finals and finals. Stampede Park is like an immense state fair; there’s plenty going on in addition to the grandstand events. There’s history around every corner, and fun at every stop. There’s a Stampede Casino for those who wish to challenge Lady Luck. There are free stage shows. The list is virtually endless: agricultural and livestock exhibits and judging, an international blacksmiths’ competition, sheep shearing contests, crafts workshops, street food galore, a western art show and auction, midway rides, cooking demonstrations, hands-on opportunities as varied as rope-making, quilting, lace-making and butter churning, exhibitions of old-time lumberjack skills, roller hockey competitions, and races featuring pigs, ducks, and roosters. At Indian Village, you’ll be able to go inside authentic tepees, watch native dances and ancient hand games, and meet Plains Indians of the Sarcee, Stoney, Blackfoot, Peigan, and Blood tribes. At the Wild West Gallery you’ll learn the life story of Buffalo Bill and his Wild West shows of yesteryear.

One Evening Chuckwagon Races and Grandstand Show. This colorful race is an exciting spectacle of nerve and horsepower. Real horsepower, that is, with four-horse teams thundering around the track, hauling chuckwagons at breakneck speed. Afterwards, we’ll see a top-notch variety show, winding up with an awesome fireworks display.

Banff National Park and Lake Louise. Our tour of Lake Louise will include lunch at the famous Chateau Lake Louise, with the twinkling Victoria Glacier as a backdrop. As we tour the park, we may expect to see elk and bison, as well as other wildlife native to the region.
